Haiti Mission
Les Anglais, Haiti
OSLC in Lake Oswego has had a sister church relationship with Les Anglais Evangelical Baptist Church in Les Anglais, Haiti for over 20 years. This relationship was developed in partnership with Reciprocal Ministries International (“RMI”), a mission organization based in Florida www.rminet.org
Our Mission Teams travel to Les Anglais, usually once a year, to visit with our brothers and sisters in the faith there. We worship with them and work with them to build up the church there where christians are a minority and held in low esteem. We also bring medical care to the community, work to improve delivery of clean water for the community, and offer supplies to help with the daily struggle of survival.
Ongoing we fund a full time agronomist in the area to promote agricultural know how in the community and we give him tools to help the farmers there be more productive. We also provide over 150 scholarships to the families of the church so their children can attend school (all schools are private in Haiti).
The most exciting part of our ministry is that our annual mission trips provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for almost anyone (no special skills necessary!) to experience a real mission to a forgotten part of the world. Even though it is a very safe operation through the good offices of RMI, our missionaries still must set aside their own comfortable surroundings, and give sacrificially to people that need our help. However, we end up being so blessed by what we see, and by the people of Haiti that we wonder anew at God’s amazing provision. The blessings we receive are always greater than our sacrifice!
